Energy planning and decarbonisation

As part of our work on energy planning and decarbonisation, RCL have been commissioned by Spanish energy company OPDE in partnership with Stracathro Estates to progress a 249MW Battery Energy Storage Scheme (BESS) at Addicate Wood, near Brechin in Angus. Located on a former commercial forest, the project is designed to provide grid balancing services in support of network decarbonisation and optimising strategic renewable generation facilities on the North East coast to consumers.

As a national infrastructure project, the BESS is subject to determination by the Energy Consents Units. Active public consultation is underway to inform neighbours and local community groups of the plans and ensure the detailed design, construction and management is shaped by public engagement.
